Here are some of the comments we have received of late:
Zen Golf is a really great book. The stories and images make the points easy to remember and call up when you need them. Easy to read, simple and clear lessons that can be applied to your game right away. Started reading it just before the US Open and used it in the tournament to help me clear away unwanted thoughts, applying what you taught in the chapter "Can You Put a Cat in a Box?" Zen Golf gives you a new and better approach to working with thoughts than traditional sports psychology. Charles Howell III, PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, 2001

Zen Golf really hit home for me. I read it on the plane and put it to use in the tournament when I arrived. Reading it fires me up and makes me want to go out and play great golf! J.J. Henry, PGA Tour
Read the book and have never felt better about my game. I am an 18 handicapper (90 is a good score for me) and the 4th round after reading the book and applying the "breathing" into my pre-shot routine I shot an 80!!! In my rounds I have enjoyed every hole and really have not lost my temper since using your skills in ZEN GOLF-- still love it!!! Mike D.
I am a scratch golfer who could not break through with a big amateur win. I bought the book about a week before our Men's city championship and ended up winning the event for the first time ever. It is a 64 player match play event that is touted as the best amateur event in the city. Thanks for the book and the excellent preparation techniques found within. Newly crowned city champion, Dustin Z., Peoria, IL
This past weekend I was playing bogey golf until I took a 10 on the sixth hole. on the sixth hole I took a 10. Normally, I would have said "that's it - I'm not going to have a good round now" and would have given up on the day. After reading your book I let the past be the past and finished birdie, par, par for the nine. I ended up shooting an 88 - 10 strokes less than usual. And with a 10 on a par 4 hole! Bob M.

Zen Golf Lessons - A preview of material from Dr. Parent's next book.
Are you a river or a statue?
Which would you rather be, a river or a statue? A river is flowing, a statue is solid. A river is constantly changing, a statue is always the same. A river nourishes and accommodates lots of living things. A statue sometimes ends up as a repository for pigeon poop.
When I ask that question in a golf school, everyone says, "River." However, when we think of ourselves, the image usually resembles a statue. We see ourselves in a particular way at this point in time, and project that view of ourselves into the past and the future. It’s safer to be a statue. When you are the same every day, there’s a certain security about it. As a golfer, it’s comfortable to shoot about the same score each time. In fact, when we start to play particularly well, anxiety often arises. Fearing that we can’t keep it up, we wonder when the usual screw-up will start. All too often we relieve the anxiety by a poor shot, which brings an outward show of frustration but often an inner relief of staying in a certain comfort zone. "Yes, there I go again." That good old recognizable "me."
Is today’s version of “me” the same as yesterday's? Is it the same as last year's? How about the one of five years ago? Twenty years ago? When we see a person we know, we probably expect her to be a particular way rather than wondering what she’ll be like today. However, we could take a fresh, curious view of others rather than assume that they’ll be the same as the last time we saw them.
The problem with statues is that though they are reliable, they never grow. If something doesn’t move or change or grow, it isn’t really alive. A river is much more alive than a statue. Although you can identify it as a particular river, it never stays the same. If we see ourselves as less solid, needing less definition, able to be a different person in different circumstances, we won’t be so attached to things coming out a particular way. We’ll be more flexible, responsive, and open to new ideas and experiences. Being this way allows us to continually grow and evolve. It’s more challenging, but also more rewarding, to be a river.
