Happy New Year
Happy New Year! This is a natural time for both reflection
and looking forward. All year we’ve shared with you stories of
how golfers have incorporated Dr. Joe’s principles into an
aspect of their games and often their lives as well. Please
keep sending your stories in 2008. This month’s is short and
sweet:
“I wanted you to know how much Zen Golf has helped me. It
has lowered my scores a minimum of 5 strokes per round. That
is without taking one lesson. I went from a 15 to a 10 almost
overnight. I made a lot of my friends angry at first, because
I was taking their money, and then turned them onto Zen Golf.
Thanks!” - Jeff C., Georgia

Tournament Notes: The Mercedes Championship
The kickoff event for the PGA Tour season is a small,
invitational field. Although there were some notable top-ten
absentees from the field, once the ugly weather on Thursday
moved through and the cobwebs were brushed off, we got to see
some very good golf.
A lot of players picked up right
where they left off last season, including Stephen Ames,
Hunter Mahan and Mike Weir. The entertaining back-nine and
playoff duel featured comeback player of the year, Steve
Stricker, mounting a prodigious challenge to Daniel Chopra, a
first time winner in 2007.
Closing with a 64 to
Chopra’s 66, the two then played four holes of sudden death
before Chopra finally managed to find the bottom of the cup
with a birdie putt.
NOTE: Chopra managed to hole 9
putts of 20 feet or more (the second most was 3) during the
four-day event, something no PGA Tour player has done since
2004. Think about how many rounds of golf were played by the
best players in the world since then.
The next time
you’re hard on yourself for missing what you think is a
‘make-able’ putt, you might consider re-reading the chapter
“Lower Your Standards” from Zen
Putting.
